Role Overview
CLG is a leading pan-African legal, tax, and business advisory firm with a presence across Sub-Saharan Africa, advising international and domestic clients on complex legal, regulatory, and fiscal matters. We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Senior Legal & Tax Advisor to join our Congo (Brazzaville) office. The ideal candidate will bring strong dual expertise in law and taxation, fluency in both French and English, and hold, or be eligible for, accreditation under the CEMAC tax framework. This is an outstanding opportunity to work at the heart of one of Central Africa’s most dynamic advisory practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide integrated legal and tax advisory services to local and international clients operating in the Republic of Congo and across the CEMAC region.
- Draft and review contracts, tax opinions, legal memoranda, and corporate documentation in both French and English.
- Advise on corporate structuring, tax planning, regulatory compliance, and investment frameworks under OHADA, CEMAC, and local law.
- Represent and liaise with the Direction Générale des Impôts (DGI) and other regulatory authorities on behalf of clients.
- Conduct legal and fiscal research; prepare client-ready updates on legislative and regulatory developments.
- Support cross-border transactions and multi-jurisdictional mandates across Central and West Africa.
- Prepare and review tax filings, transfer pricing documentation, and fiscal dispute responses as required.
- Collaborate with internal sector teams and contribute to firmwide knowledge-sharing and business development initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
- Law degree (LLB or equivalent) from a recognised institution; a postgraduate qualification in tax law or fiscal management is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of post-qualification experience in legal and/or tax advisory, with substantial exposure to CEMAC jurisdictions.
- Accreditation as a Conseil Fiscal or equivalent recognised qualification under the CEMAC tax accreditation framework (or demonstrable eligibility and commitment to obtain same).
- Bilingual proficiency in French and English
- In-depth knowledge of OHADA commercial law, CEMAC fiscal regulations, and local Congolese law and practice.
- Demonstrated experience advising international clients, including multinational corporations or development finance institutions.
- Strong legal and tax drafting skills; ability to produce precise, commercially sound documentation in both languages.
Highly Desirable:
- Experience in the energy, extractives, infrastructure, or financial services sectors.
- Knowledge of transfer pricing rules and international tax principles as applied in the CEMAC region.
- Familiarity with investment codes and sector-specific regulatory regimes in Congo or neighbouring CEMAC states.
- Strong interpersonal and client relationship management skills; entrepreneurial mindset.
