The Africa Energy Frontiers series profiles Africa’s up-and-coming oil and gas nations. In 2015 and 2016 we published overviews of petroleum legislation, recent activities, major projects and tax considerations in 15 African jurisdictions, from South Sudan to South Africa. Now, we look at Uganda.
Boasting the largest onshore oil discovery in sub-Saharan Africa in two decades, Uganda, along with neighbouring Kenya, is at the forefront of oil exploration in East Africa. With a regional pipeline deal and a refinery in the works, the country could be producing, processing and exporting as much 250,000 barrels per day in the next decade.
